NOTES
This song was completed just after the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in February 2018. It draws from the imagery — tragically, always the same — of the shooting: disbelief, grief, rage, paranoia, delusion, empty promises, and so on. And then repeat (like firing a weapon). The enemy, the villain, the monster: he is beside us, with us, talking to us; he is your neighbour, your parent, your child, your classmate. He is everywhere and nowhere. Do we feel secure with our weapons close at hand? When it all happens again they will say their scripted lines. Thoughts and prayers will be offered. They will make their sacrifice. And then repeat.
